In recent months, accidents involving cyclists and motorists have increased in Brazil. From this, new initiatives are being created. Cycling mourning the death of Claudio Clarindo after crash on Road

Considered one of the world's best over long distances, Brazilian rider of 38 years was hit by car while training and succumbed to his injuries

The Brazilian cycling is in mourning. Died on Monday athlete Claudio Clarindo, 38, after being involved in an accident while training in Rio-Santos highway, north of São Paulo. A group of five riders went down the side of the road when a car in the opposite direction across the track and hit Clarindo and another cyclist, Jacob Amorim, 32, who suffered multiple fractures in one leg and will undergo surgery.











According to G1, the accident happened at km 244, around 7:30 am. The car was traveling in Guaruja direction and the pair followed by the shoulder, in Bertioga sense, using all the safety equipment. The car driver provided aid to cyclists and was taken to a police station in Santos shortly thereafter.

He confirmed to police that he slept at the wheel, but the breathalyzer test did not accuse consumption of alcohol. Clarindo was also rescued alive but died en route to hospital. But the cyclist Jacob Amorim da Silva, 32, was referred to surgery, having sustained a femur fracture. The health state it is stable.

Specialist in long distance events, Clarindo was considered one of the ten best in the world in the sport. In June last year, the cyclist competed for the fifth time Race Across America (RAAM), an event that spans the United States and is one of the toughest competitions in the world.

Daniel lives in Ponta Grossa, in the region of Minas Paraná fields. On Wednesday (20), in his city, a cyclist was killed when the driver of a parked car
opened the vehicle door when he went by bicycle.



The situation occurred in Avenida João Manoel dos Santos Ribas in the “Nova Russia” neighborhood. The victim followed by Avenue corner, next to parking spaces when it was hit by the vehicle door in the neck.

Maringa, in the northern state also registered a major accident with cyclist last week. A driver was arrested for running over a cyclist in Cerro Azul Avenue on Saturday (23). Daniel also mentions the death of the rider Claudio Clarindo in Santos, in the São Paulo coast. He was hit on Monday morning (25), while training in Rio-Santos highway with another rider.

For Daniel, local governments also have an important role in protecting cyclists, which includes the construction of bike paths. "We see so many bikes and dangerous streets, here in Ponta Grossa and other cities. There are people who use bicycle to work, pedaling 10-15 kilometers a day. It's not fair to feel fear or risk", he believes.



Cyclist without hands
Today, Daniel confesses to pedal less than it used to, especially since, after much struggle, managed to take the National Drivers License (CNH).

However, in 2007, for example, he made a long cycling trip: left Ponta Grossa and headed
Itajaíx in Santa Catarina to play games for disabled people. During the five days, it was about 350 km cycled.



Months after making the trip, Daniel discovered that his mother had cancer and promised that if she was cured, would bike to the National Shrine of Our Lady Aparecida, in São Paulox in October. Unfortunately, there was not time. One day after the rider's birthday, on June 19, his mother died.

But even so, in her honor, the rider made the route. In 10 days, he rode 810 km. It took three days just to cross the São Paulo Center. "Today, I have come out to ride the evening to unwind only. But never abandon my bike" he said.

Ponta grossa
In the past year in Ponta Grossa, the Integrated Service Center Trauma in Emergency (SIATE) attended 249 accidents involving cyclists in Ponta Grossa. 187 were falls, 88 collisions between cars and bicycles, 12 hits between motorcycles and bicycles and two accidents between trucks and bikes.

In a statement, Ponta Grossa Prefecture told the G1 that "has invested in bike paths from the beginning of the current administration, understanding that it is the cleanest and most sustainable mode for transport in urban areas.
